For the past few weeks, my wife Laura has been engaged in a fantastic project -- using leftover bits of yarn to knit tiny wool hats, mittens and socks for babies in Afghanistan. They are beautiful, tactile little objects -- and warm. They will be delivered to the embattled people of that country by a humanitarian organization called Afghans for Afghans.
