LYNN WOODS TURNER at Danese

Lynn Woods Turner, Untitled (9026), 2008, 16 x 16 inches, oil on linen over board

This post is coming a bit late, as there are only two days left to see paintings and drawings by Lynn Woods Turner at Danese (through April 16). This is a surprising show of insistently quiet small objects -- exquisitely simple and sensuous paintings on linen that explore elemental geometric configurations and odd pastel color, and tiny diagrammatic pencil drawings on aged paper. The iconic images and supple surfaces evoke a reverence for natural forms, and their simplicity suggests a rigorous and deeply felt distillation of experience. In the light-filled gallery, these works have a floating etherial presence, creating a silent, intimate, contemplative space.
